Dan Bayer Bio

Hello visitors, welcome to dbPIX.

This is a site dedicated to my images obtained in both a professional and personal level. Thank you for taking the time to explore them. My name is Daniel Bayer. I am a self-taught photojournalist with over 28 years of experience in photography.

I was born in Ipswich, England in 1967, moved to the U.S. in 1971. Grew up in Southern California. There are an untold amount of people and experiences that have influenced my work and my life. Countless hours were spent as a child in the library looking at the pages of Kodachromes of the seventies in National Geographic.

I started my journey in photography at age 11 when I tried and failed to balance my fathers old 120 camera on my telescope with a brick on the lens end to get photos of the moon. I got back lots of fuzzy tennis ball looking images that cost me at the time a small fortune in film and printing.

I started my career in photography gradually in 1990 when I got my first published piece. It was a 20X30 poster of an F-14 Tomcat at sunrise aboard an aircraft carrier. I spent three years in the U.S. Navy photographing life aboard the ship as I turned wrenches on high priced aircraft. I have vowed to return to the mighty war ship to do a documentary on the ?Blood sweat and tears? Guys who keep the airman flying. It will be called, "The Dance on the Deck".

My experience includes four years of freelance editorial and advertising shooting in Los Angeles. Two years of news shooting at the Hutchinson News in Hutchinson, Kansas. Six years of editorial, news and advertising shooting in Aspen Colorado where I am currently based. Five years were spent at the Aspen Times Daily and Weekly. I freelanced for one year abroad in countries such as New Zealand, Australia, Cambodia, Thialand, Malaysia and greater Europe in 2001.

I now shoot freelanced digital and film for a variety of domestic and international clients such as the following: The Aspen Times, Aspen Magazine, Forbes, Time, The Chicago Tribune, ABC television and National Geographic Adventure. I am repped by Polaris Images, NYC and George Hall / Check Six, San Francisco. More work can be seen at Photo.net and Polaris images
